Friendly home away from home

This is a long-overdue review from our stay in February 2018. We went from such a relaxing break to straight back to work, and don't know where the time has gone! From the moment we arrived with our names up on the welcome board to the moment we left with everyone waving us off, Charlie and Clinton and the staff made us feel not like paying guests but more like old friends invited to stay for a while. The apartments themselves were spacious, well-appointed with facilities and clean and tidy, what more could you ask for?The staff were always friendly and happy to help whenever required. We used the apartment as a base for our adventures but could have just as easily spent the time around the pool or on the nearby beaches. In fact the apartments are ideally situated for most things and only a short (and inexpensive) taxi ride away from the main tourist areas should you wish to visit those. We had great fun playing cards in the evening and joining in the group dinner. It was really like staying with friends- in fact we discovered that we were the only people there on our first visit and were amongst "regulars".Charlie and Clinton had a selection of basics on hand to buy for our self catering kitchen and made several excellent restaurant recommendations. And when we took an overnight trip up river, the whole gang was waiting the next evening for our return and to hear our tales.Would we stay there again? Of course we would! Whilst we were on our first visit all of the other guests staying there at the same time were on their second or third visit to Kingfishers and you can’t get a better endorsement than that. Thanks Charlie and Clinton!-Karla and Graham

Cannot recommend highly enough !

I really cannot recommend Kingfisher’s Apartments strongly enough. Both Charlie and Clinton are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to help you. Charlie even lent me her hairbrush because I'd gormlessly forgotten mine. The staff in the apartments are lovely and there are several activities happening every week, including gorgeous -looking meals, which you can engage in as little or as much as you like. It's a great place to meet new people and we found all the guests really friendly and chatty. The apartments are in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the highway and a seven dalasi taxi ride to the Strip and Turntable. The rooms themselves are kept spotlessly clean and there is a wickedly powerful fridge which is fantastic for your gin and tonic! The power shower also does what it says on the tin and the bed was extremely comfortable! I'd definitely return to Kingfisher’s and there really is nothing that I can fault with our stay. Thanks a million Charlie and Clinton. Helen and Anna, England

Fantastic

We were only here for 4 days, but already on the first day we felt like we were visiting our best friends. Charlie and Clinton. Clean and tidy rooms, always power, fresh bread delivered to the door every morning is something of what we liked. What, however, can not be described as easy is the mood. It just felt good to be here. Again ... Thank you very much for making our stay what it became. Anna and Lamin.

Unchanged thank goodness !!!!

Just returned from our second stay at Kingfishers and we were delighted that the experience was as wonderful as the first. Charlie and Clinton have created a friendly and fun environment, and they along with their first class staff made sure that we had the best stay. They arranged a lovely overnight stay at Bintang Bolong which is a beautiful peaceful place where my husband spent the day fishing and I just enjoyed the scenery! We also had a great day on a boat meandering on the River Gambia looking at all the birdlife. The evenings can be as sociable as you want so if you would like to join in on the barbecue nights or just sit and enjoy a drink and watch the world go by, the choice is yours and you never feel under any pressure. We will definitely be returning along with many of the other guests who booked again before they left. Amazing apartments, great location !

Amazing find at the end of a gorgeous day. Meandering back to our apartments after a lovely lazy day on the beach we passed a local football game that my husband and son wanted to watch, as we stopped we noticed a beautifully kept apartment complex with people sat in the sunshine outside. We asked if we were able to get a drink and although we were not apartment guests they happily pulled up a table and chairs for us. One of the best decisions all holiday, spent a lovely hour or so chatting to Clinton and Charlie whilst watching the football, they were fantastic with us and our son and such a friendly atmosphere. They even gave us a little tour of the apartments. They are beautiful, a lovely small complex with four apartments and 2 pools in a beautiful setting. Everything was immaculate and very well looked after and the staff friendly and helpful. Sadly for us they do have a no under 16 policy and as we have a little one we will not be able to stay next year but this will not stop me from recommending Kingfisher Apartments to everyone else. This is a great find in a good location and I have no doubt that anyone that stays here will come back again and again. Thank you Charlie and Clinton for such a wonderful welcome. Fantastic place to stay

I guess one of the best ways to judge if a person liked their accommodation is to ask them if they would stay there again; would I stay at Kingfishers again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat; in fact, I’ve already booked for next year!Kingfishers is in a quiet area at the end of short sandy road off the main Senegambia highway, 2.3Km from “The Strip”, the main busy, noisy tourist area and 700m to the beach. There are a few restaurants, hotels and bars within walking distance or jump in a taxi and then there is a much larger choice of places to eat. You could, or course, cook for yourself but I only ever eat breakfast in my room and ate out for all other meals. With only 4 self-catering apartments, Kingfishers is never going to be busy or crowded. There is a friendly atmosphere to the place; the owners Clinton and Charlie and even other guests staying there made me feel so welcome. Sometimes there was an event laid on in the evening, a quiz, group meal, etc but you were under no pressure to attend but I had lots of fun when I did. I was a bit gutted that I missed out on a lazy river cruise trip that they had arranged for the day after I left.My apartment had a kitchen/dining/living room, bedroom and separate bathroom and a porch outside with table and chairs. The kitchen had a hob with 3 gas burners, a microwave, fridge, toaster and a basic set of kitchen utensils. The kettle was a use-on-the-hob type, handy if there is a power cut and it was not one of times that the generator was running; at least you could still easily make a hot drink. The living/dining room area had a small dining table with two chairs, two relaxing chairs and a flat-screen TV.The bathroom had a loo, basin and shower and bedroom had a very comfortable king size bed, two sets of drawers which also double up as bedside tables, a ceiling fan and an air-conditioning unit that I never used. I later found out that all the A/C units had actually been decommissioned because they would overload the generator, but I found the fan fine anyway. The wardrobe was in the hallway which also contained an electronic safe that was bolted to the wall.Outside there was a courtyard area with chairs, sunbeds and a plunge pool and around the back of the apartments was another courtyard area with a larger pool and more sunbeds, umbrellas and tables – there’s going to be no need to get up early in the morning to lay-claim to a sunbed; there are plenty to go around!Just inside the entrance to Kingfishers there is reception and also a seating area with tables; this is the only place where non-residents are allowed. There is also a “bar” with a small selection of drinks – basically you ask one of the friendly staff members to go and get you a drink from owner/staff only area of Kingfishers and they will add the cost to your tab.I don’t think Kingfishers will be for everyone – for example if you like to be pampered, with waiters hovering around to take your drinks or food orders, enjoy getting up early to stake a claim by the pool and eating breakfast early otherwise there are no tables or food left, expect music and dancing entertainment to be laid on each night then you might want to consider looking elsewhere. Kingfishers is for people aged 16+ who are after peace and relaxation while in the comfortable accommodation and head out if they want to explore or enjoy the beach or have a meal out or go in search of more noisy evening entertainment. If you fall into the latter category, what are you waiting for? Book now! Gary H

Excellent holiday

We couldn't have asked for better accommodation that suited our needs. From the moment we arrived Charlie and Clinton where very hospitable and made us feel welcome. It's a little oasis on a sandy Street. The apartment was good and very clean. The beds where comfortable and I was surprised how good the WiFi was! The boys who work there couldn't do enough for you. One of the nights they hosted a burger and karaoke evening which was great fun. During the day we went to Sun bird on the beach about 10min walk and used there sunbeds highly recommend. Taxi to main tourist area easy to get to for 100d. We would definitely recommend kingfisher and will be returning again. Stephen
