A great place with excellent hosts!

A great location in a quiet neighborhood and close to Bijilo beach. The property felt like an oasis and a home away from home. What really stands out is the garden with all the trees, shrubs and flowers surrounding the property. The hosts were the most attentive, friendly and outgoing hosts you could wish for. The fishing trip, organised with the hosts, was an unforgettable experience. It was the hosts that made this stay so memorable. You can also have your own BBQ - just make sure you purchase imported beef at local stores. The staff too were very attentive and contributed greatly to the personal comfort.
There isn't anything I didn't like. As an aside, Banjul can be a hot place at times and it would have been nice to have had an extra fan in the living room/kitchen as well, especially in the afternoon. The hosts offered to supply an extra fan, however, as there are two swimming pools to choose from for an invigorating dip we passed on the offer.Marc and Senabou

Jonne, NL

Best of both worlds - 6 stars would not be sufficient

A haven for holidaying couples in a small oasis of 4 self catering apartments. Here you can be entirely self-sufficient or engage with the dedicated ever helpful staff and owners to whatever extent suits you.

The apartments are well equipped (we experienced two of them), comfortable and in accommodation terms 4*. They were both spotlessly clean and serviced each day. Roomy without being excessively large. Excellent value too.

What sets this apart is the environment Charlie and Clinton (C&C) create making their guests feel at home, valued and C&C go the extra mile.

We (optionally) engaged in the environment they and fellow guests create; meals, ready beer & wine, bread delivered to the door, safe currency exchange etc.

If guests wish, C&C host sing-a-long (karaoke with no pressure), chatting in the homely reception area, listening to music etc. We just had to play the 3 times a week "play your cards right" - an outbreak of fun.

They offer safe guides for trips, provide sagely advice for guests to do their own thing etc. C&C's years of experience in customer service shines through.

I enjoy reading the bad reviews. Kingfishers don't have any (despite the many years this has run) and now I understand why.

Downsides? None that would be fair. It is not right on the beach (but only 7 leisurely minutes walk), it doesn't have children staying, but I found these things advantages.

We left genuinely feeling privileged to have stayed at Kingfishers. Take the chance yourself if you can!

Another wonderful relaxing stay

Amazing hosts, amazing staff, amazing place. Err, that’s it!

Just four very comfortable self-catering apartments, each with their own veranda and outside table and chairs, surrounding a plunge pool and small courtyard area with its own outside seating and tables. There is a small swimming pool with sunbeds and shaded relaxing chairs accessible via a side path and a communal seating area at the front of the property. The whole property is surrounded by some well-tended plants, shrubs and flowers. It really does seem like a green oasis in a sea of dry dust and sand outside in the rest of Gambia.

Although Kingfishers is self-catering, Charlie and Clinton, the English couple hosts, offer a small selection of cooked breakfasts and “eat what Charlie and Clinton eat” two or three times a week in the evening. Fresh bread can be delivered daily to your room and there are a few hotels and restaurants in easy walking distance where you could drop in and eat; or jump in a cheap taxi and then restaurant and hotel selection for places to eat increases dramatically. For example, the Senegambia Hotel, about a 40 minute walk or 10 minutes by taxi, offers an all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet breakfast for D400 per person (just over £6 as of Jan 2020).

The overall impression of Kingfishers is feeling part of a family rather than just a paying guest – they really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and included. Guest entertainment in the form of party games, occasional Karaoke evenings and lazy day boat trips are put on; join in if you want to or do your own thing if you don’t – there’s no pressure.

Finally, a small Gambian team working with the Charlie and Clinton completes the perfect setup.

Already booked my next stay; you should too! Gary and Cathie, UK

A fun place to stay

We had a great welcome and were invited to a New Years party which was really good fun. It's well worth eating there as the food is really yummy. Only a short walk away from the local beach with is really nice. Chris, England

Second home

We keep coming back, which says a lot. A lovely setting with a friendly and welcoming greeting from Charlie, Clinton and their staff.
Nothing is too much trouble for Charlie and Clinton. They can organise delivery of shopping, taxis and even days out in their company.
There are 4 apartments which are all well presented and maintained. Guests have use of a plunge pool and small swimming pool in a secluded sun trap within the grounds.
Clinton offers a cooked breakfast and many opportunities to share an evening meal either in the company of Charlie and Clinton and other guests or on your own verandah.
Bijilo is within easy travel distance of bars and restaurants.
Real value for money. Will be returning soon. Keith, England

Love and friendship

Accomadation fantastic Management fantastic. Staff fantastic, grounds and pools fantastic location fantastic Clintons cooking fantastic etc etc etc.
And now how i really feel.
The minute you enter the establishment you feel as if you are being sucked into the vortex of a binding and loving cyclone of emotion somewhere very special that brings people together with a magical ebb flowing from the owners through there staff and surrounding the guests.
Its like a tiny community with the residents of the 4 appartments set within the idyllic gardens chatting over there garden walls. Nothing is to much trouble if anybody needs help or advice its there from everbody present.
The staff could not be more helpful intelligent and articulate and have there own unique skills that you will discover yourself.
Your fellow guests are often an attraction themselves as the property can be frequented by differant ineresting people. From security advisors to chimpanzee specialists ,people running there own support projects, and Salsa dancing polish teachers your education starts there.
The laughter rings aroun d the courtyard of an evening as people play games or just enjoy the secret of conversation.
Worried about flghts. Dont be. MY recommendation local airport flight to Lisbon Tap airways flight to gambia probably rhe best airline service ive ever had.
And so if you want security , entertainment, and quality this is your place Why not join the Kingfishers family. Sean and Del, Wales

What an amazing place to stay

I have just spent two weeks in a really amazing place. Kingfishers Holiday appartments are ideally stuated in the heart of the village of Bijilo which is in turn in the heart of rural Gambia. It is owned and run by an english couple Clinton and Charley. They live on site and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and almost part of the family. They have two pools which is more than enough for the four appartments which are spot lessly clean and are a cool refuge from the heat of the day. The holiday is self catering however Clinton is a great cook and guests can either dine out or have a meal of whatever Clinto and Charley are eating that day - highly recommended by the way. If you want to discover the real Gambia then I can think of no better place to base your holiday. I will definitely be back next year! Mike, Isle of Wight

Had a very relaxed holiday

We stayed at the kingfisher apartments for two weeks, ideally situated for the beach. The apartments are really clean and well looked after. Lovely Court yard with plunge pool then another area with a swimming pool. If you want breakfast cooked for you Clinton will do it for you, also if you want an evening meal but to tired to go out Clinton will cook for you. Nice area when you first enter Kingfishers, table and chairs if you want to spend time chatting away with your fellow guests or quite often join in the entertainment /games you will end up laughing the night away. We can recommend a little bar/restaurant 10 minutes walk away Baby j's. Run by
young Gambian lady who very much takes pride in her business, food is cooked fresh so be prepared to wait. So out of kingfishers front door turn right walk straight for about 10mins and it is on your right hand side. Friday night is like the uk with darts /pool. Back to kingfishers the fishing boat trip is fun and gets quite competitive between ladies and gents. So enjoy your stay Charlie and Clinton plus their lovely staff will look after all your needs. Jenny, England
